Wedding Detail
The Diamond Study
Private commission, New York · 2026 · Detail session
Overview
Some wedding mornings move too fast for the small things — the ring, the engraving, the heirloom pin. This commission slowed everything down: a dedicated detail session the day before the wedding, with the rings, stationery, and family pieces styled and photographed like jewellery editorial.
The challenge with diamonds is physics. Every facet is a tiny mirror, so the wrong light turns brilliance into glare. I lit this study with a large, soft north-facing source and dark cards placed by millimetres, coaxing out fire in the stone while keeping the band's warm gold intact.
Approach
Detail work is done on a macro rail with focus stacking — a dozen exposures at slightly different focal planes, blended into one image that is sharp from table to crown. It is slow, fussy work, and it is the reason these frames look less like documentation and more like the campaign pages of a maison.
"The ring photos look like they belong in a magazine. My grandmother's brooch has never looked so beautiful."
